Pelléas et Mélisande, Op. 80 is the incidental music for the London production of Maeterlinck's play which Gabriel Fauré composed and conducted in 1898.
A suite of five items for orchestra was published in 1900 and first performed in 1901.
It has also been arranged for solo piano, as well as for piano duet.
The Sicilienne has become very popular, with arrangements for flute and piano (by Henri Büsser amongst others), as well as other instruments.
