Godolphin Racing operates a thoroughbred horse racing stable in Dubai and England. The stable takes its name from the Godolphin Arabian.
The organisation, whose first full year of operation was in 1994, is based in both Dubai and Newmarket, United Kingdom, and was set up by Dubai's ruling family, the Maktoums, with Sheikh Mohammed the driving force behind the operation. He also owns the Darley Stable.
Horses are wintered in Dubai, then sent each April to Godolphin's UK-based Godolphin Stables, which is the former Stanley House, built in 1903 by Frederick Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby.
Godolphin registered its 100th Group/Grade One win with Sulamani in the 2003 Arlington Million.
The stable's retained jockey is Frankie Dettori. Godolphin's trainer is Saeed bin Suroor.
At the 2009 UAE Derby, Godolphin's Regal Ransom won the race by a half length over stablemate Desert Party.[1]
Some of the horses owned by Godolphin include:
Godolphin has won numerous awards since its inception.[citation needed] The stable was a finalist for the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Owner in 2008.
