Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is a 1962 drama film based on a novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, directed by Vincente Minnelli, and starring Glenn Ford, Ingrid Thulin, Charles Boyer, Lee J. Cobb, Paul Lukas, Yvette Mimieux, Karlheinz Böhm, and Paul Henreid. The film was released by MGM, and lost six million dollars at the box office, having been compared unfavorably to the famous 1921 silent film version starring Rudolph Valentino, especially due to the fact that Ford now played the Valentino role and was considered severely miscast. (The 1921 version is the film in which Rudolph Valentino famously danced the tango.)

The director wanted the starring roles to be filled by Alain Delon and Romy Schneider, but both refused for commercial reasons. Glenn Ford and Ingrid Thulin were much older than the characters in the book. The period in which the plot is set was changed from World War I to World War II for the film. Although Ingrid Thulin spoke English well, she was dubbed by Angela Lansbury. The film is considered a masterpiece in France, Argentina and Spain.[citation needed]

Soundtrack

The soundtrack score was composed by André Previn. Alan and Marilyn Bergman later wrote lyrics to Previn's score. This song "More In Love With You" was recorded by Barbra Streisand for "The Movie Album" (2003).
