Description

Official Seal of the City of Milwaukee. The seal displays various symbols of the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the center of the seal is a lighthouse with a rising sun, surrounded by seven stars and an abbreviation for Wisconsin, WIS. The middle area displays (beginning at top, clockwise) a railroad locomotive, a church, a steamboat, and a factory. The words CITY OF MILWAUKEE are at the top of the outer circle, and INCORPORATED JAN. 31 1846 are at the bottom.

(1) To illustrate City of Milwaukee official seal on the Milwaukee article.

(2) And on the History of Milwaukee article, to reinforce through illustration the date of city incorporation as well as to further provide 5 additional historic illustrations of city life during the mid-19th century, as depicted within the seal. Historic depictions of Milwaukee during the mid-19th century are increasingly rare.
