Dick Richards

Dick Richards (born 1936) is an American film director, producer and writer.

Aside from his own directorial filmography, Richards is perhaps best known for the films that he did not direct. He was the first choice by producers David Brown and Richard D. Zanuck to direct Jaws (1975), but was fired after expressing his vision to "make a movie about a whale"; he was subsequently replaced by Steven Spielberg.

He was supposed to direct Tootsie (1982), but was eventually replaced by Sydney Pollack and stayed as a producer.
