The Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) was founded in 1925 to create a standard of success for academic journalism for the United States' high school and universities. The Association is affiliated with Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and is a voluntary membership-based organization.

Awards and Contests: (Most of these award multiple prizes each year: in 2007, there were 42 gold and 83 silver crown awards)[1]

  • James Frederick Paschal Award
  • Edmund J. Sullivan Award
  • Charles R. O'Malley Award for Excellence in Teaching
  • Joseph M. Murphy Award

Online Crown Award

The CSPA presented Crown awards to online media for the first time in 2009. The online high school newspaper finalists included[2]:

  • Oakton Outlook
  • The Feather Online (Fresno Christian High School)
  • The Paly Voice
  • The Rockville Rampage
  • The Saratoga Falcon
  • The Spoke Online
  • Wayland Student Press
