Brigham Young (also known as Brigham Young - Frontiersman) is a movie released in 1940 based upon a story by Louis Bromfield and screenplay by Lamar Trotti. It depicts Brigham Young's succession to the presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the assassination of the Church's founder, Joseph Smith, Jr. The movie begins on the American frontier in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844 and narrates the difficulties encountered as Young leads thousands of Latter-day Saint pioneers across the plains to settle the Salt Lake Valley in Utah. The movie generally depicts LDS Church history sympathetically, although its dramatic presentation inaccurately portrays details throughout.
The movie starred Vincent Price as Smith, Dean Jagger as Young, Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell.
