Bonez Tour
Lavigne embarked on her first world concert tour during 2004 and 2005 the Bonez Tour visiting North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latinamerica. Lavigne named the tour Bonez in response to the question "what's under your skin?" (a reference to the title of her second album).[5] The live performance at the Budokan Stadium was covered on the DVD Live at Budokan: Bonez Tour, which was only made available in Japan.
Background
- After Lavigne announced the first leg of tour dates she told MTV that was tired and hated to play her big hits such as "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi":[6]
| “ |
Sometimes I cannot stand playing 'Complicated,' but what makes it worth it is when I do play it the crowd gets really excited. |
” |
- Lavigne shows her talents on tour for the first time stating:[6]
| “ |
I usually have someone like [songwriter/producer] Butch Walker come out and sing and I'll play the drums. I play the piano on a bunch of songs. I do some songs by myself on acoustic guitar and then of course I play electric guitar during other songs. So I'm all over the place. |

The Best Damn Tour
Avril Lavigne embarked on The Best Damn Tour, beginning March 5, 2008 to October 6, 2008 in more than 100 tour dates to support her third album The Best Damn Thing.[13][14] This has been Lavigne biggest tour in production till now and it was directed by Jamie King.[15] It is estimated that the tour earns around $55 million worldwide.
Background
Lavigne announced the tour at her official site on November 6, 2007.[16] The tour was very different from her previous tour, Lavigne stated:[14]
| “ |
I've never played on a stage like this before [...] I just wanted the show to be more showy. I wanted to take it to the next level. |
” |
All the instruments that Lavigne played at the shows were pink, she stated:[14]
| “ |
The theme is pink! The theme is like a party! [...] I play the drums, I play the piano and of course I play the guitar, There's a lot going on. |
” |
- The tour stirred controversy when it confronted protests by conservatives in Malaysia due to Lavigne being 'too sexy'.[17] However, the government finally gave permission for her to perform on August 29, 2008.[18] Lavigne commented:
| “ |
They tend to, you know, sometimes not want Western artists in their country, I respect that, but at the same time, you know, there's people that listen to music there and want to see their idols and stuff, so it's all good: been approved by the government and [I'm] going to go put on a show and have fun. |
” |
- On September 16 Avril perform for the very first time at Tokyo Dome an stadium that holds 50,000 people, and she sold around 40,000 tickets making this the biggest show of this tour.
- The last concert in Beijing, China had a controversy when hundreds of incredibly excited fans left the upper seating, climbed to the floor and gathered at the foot of the stage to sing and dance along with Avril, something rarely seen in Beijing..[19]
- Due to 'Acute Laryngitis' Avril canceled the last 8 North American Concerts. She also canceled her concert in Barcelona, Spain the same day of the concert due to a supposed truckers strike.
