• First Division – Huddersfield Town win the 1923–24 title.
• FA Cup – Newcastle United beat Aston Villa 2–0.

• Essendon wins the 28th VFL Premiership (under the finals system used, no grand final was played)
• Brownlow Medal awarded for the first time, to Edward Greeves (Geelong).

• Washington Senators def. New York Giants (4–3) in the World Series.

Negro League Baseball

• Kansas City Monarchs (NNL) defeats Hilldale (ECL) 5 games to 4 with 1 tie in the first official Negro League World Series.
• Pitcher Nip Winters wins a record 27 games for Hilldale in the ECL regular season.

Field hockey

• The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is founded on January 7 in Paris by seven member states: Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Hungary, Spain, and Switzerland.

• March 25 - Montreal Canadiens win their second Stanley Cup, defeating the Calgary Tigers 2 games to 0.
• March - The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defeat the Winnipeg Selkirks 6-3 to win the Allan Cup.
• December 1 - The expansion Boston Bruins and Montreal Maroons of the NHL play their first-ever game against each other at Boston. Boston won the game 2-1. Boston then lost eleven games in a row.

Olympic Games

• 1924 Summer Olympics takes place in Paris, France
  • United States wins the most medals (99), and the most gold medals (45).
• 1924 Winter Olympics, the first Winter Olympics, takes place in Chamonix, France
